SMBQ gets a new horn player
It's with mixed feelings that we say goodbye to Alan Mattingly, french horn. Alan was a founding member of the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, and we put up with his antics for thirteen years. The number one rule in the quintet was to never look at Alan during a rehearsal or performance, for fear of bursting out with laughter. Seriously though, we wish Alan and his family all the best in their new life in Nebraska where Alan is on the music faculty at the University of Nebraska.
We are very excited to welcome Travis Bennett, french horn, as the newest member of our group. Travis has had to hit the ground running because, in addition to the quintet's busy Fall schedule, Travis has started a new position at Western Carolina University, moved from Alabama, and, oh yes, had his first child. He hasn't missed a beat though, and fits perfectly into the quintet. We look forward to a long relationship with Travis. Read his bio here.
